From the summary:
A YEAR OF EVENTS
The first year of ACADEMIA SUPERIOR was characterized by high-profile events, most notably the SURPRISE FACTORS SYMPOSIUM with international experts. In three DIALOG events, Markus Hengstschläger had animated conversations with guests on the topics China, happiness, and art. The topics of business locations, challenges for leading companies, and knowledge-intensive services were discussed in conferences and workshops. Moreover, the energy-trialog was successfully started. Other meetings, such as the TWALKs (talk and walk) and discussions with members of the Advisory Board, provided important input and ideas for new approaches.
A YEAR OF TOPICS
ACADEMIA SUPERIOR develops courses for action on topics.
Innovation: The capacity for innovation of a region consists of the ability of people and businesses to create new items, to develop them and to turn them into marketable products. In order to analyze the innovation capacity of Upper Austria, a study was commissioned, which provides a transparent ranking in comparison with other European regions.
Energy: Because of the strong industry and the high share of manufacturing energy policy is of the utmost importance for Upper Austria. The issue is treated in two steps: in the study on „Energy policy in Upper Austria” in cooperation with the Industrial Association of Upper Austria and in the Upper Austria Energy Trialog, which will culminate in a concept paper in 2012.
Economy: Upper Austria is faced with intense competition for businesses, investments and the best personnel. The five themes of regional economic policy, knowledge-intensive services, human resources, leading companies, and start-ups are thoroughly analyzed. A comprehensive conclusion will include recommendations for the protection and improvement of the economic region of Upper Austria.
Health: A healthy diet contributes significantly to the healthy lifestyle of the population. A study will present the health condition in Upper Austria in combination with or as a function of nutritional parameters, such as dietary habits and nutritional status. Recommendations as to how specific measures can enhance health in Upper Austria will be formulated.
Young people: As „passive democrats” young people support democratic values but are disgruntled by politic(ian)s and only participate to a small extent actively in socio-political events. A model describes how both young people and society can benefit from participation and community initiatives.
